Frequently Asked questions

The more you ask the more the F.A.Q. will grow!

The Questions (Jump to answers below)
? Do you sell parts or kits for interfaces?
? Do you sell any completely built modems or interfaces?
? Can you build me a Modem or RS-232 interface for me?
? Why do your modems use an actual RS-232 transceiver IC as opposed to taking power and signal levels from the serial port as in many other designs I have seen else where?
? I am running windows and DOS programs like Baycom, Hamcomm and AN-93, won't work on my machine. What do I do?
? Does the TCM3105 IC do 300 baud for Amateur Radio use?
? How can I contact the programmer for BMK Multy for support?
? The CP-100 Schematic I have is poor. Do you have a better copy than what's available on the Technicothica website?

 The Answers!
? Sell kits or interfaces
A We do not sell parts or kits. However we try to help you find parts. Part Resoure page.
? Sell any completely built modems or interfaces
A We do not sell any interfaces, just provide free information on how to build them.
? Can you build me a Modem or RS-232 interface for me?
A Unfortunately, we have real jobs, so we do not have the time to build special projects anymore.
? Why our modem designs use a full RS-232 transceiver IC as opposed to taking power and logic from serial port?
A The simple answer is: A RS-232 transceiver IC will gaurantee to satisfy the signal level requirements of the serial port on your machine. We have seen some PC's that would not tollerate the half swing (0 to +12v only) or grey level (approx -5 to +5 volts (a questionable state change)) on incoming data. We have only seen the 'rob the serial port' concept for packet type modems where data polarity is unimportant as there is no right side up or upside down in packet. However there is polarity in RTTY, PACTOR, AMTOR, and other similar modes, where true state changes on the serial port are needed.
? Windows or Linux where DOS programs like Baycom, Hamcomm and AN-93, won't work on my machine.
A If you have a floppy disk drive you can make a bootable DOS disk and place Hamcomm, Baycom, AN-93 and the like all one one disk, and still have free disk space!
? Does the TCM3105 IC do 300 baud for Amateur Radio use?
A Unfortunately it does not. Oh the possibilities if it did!
? Contact BMK Multy programmer for support
A As far as I know it's not a supported program any more or for sale any where. Nobody knows where the programmer went.
? Is there a more readable schematic for the AEA CP-100 avaiable on the Technicothica web site?
A Yes, a better schematic is available for the CP-100 thanks to 3d! Head to the CP-100 page for the download link.
