 AEA CP-1 Modem (Unmodified)
An original Advanced Electronics Applications model AEA CP-1 -before I modified it several times over!

Made in the early 80's, the AEA CP-1 is a nice unit loaded with features Such as Oscilloscope and L.E.D. bargraph tuning.

A CP-1 sells for about $10 at a Hamfest.

Will you look at all them connectors!

With that many connectors you should be able to do anything!

I installed RS-232 on this CP-1, hence the female DB-25 connector is present. Something you don't see on many CP-1's.

AEA CP-1 Modem With Oscilloscope for Tuning
I have you in my sights now, heh heh. A favorite feature of the
CP-1, Oscilloscope tuning!

You can get "Mark on Mark" with your contact and also see how clean the incoming signal is.

If the other station has a crummy signal and says it must be on your end, you can tell them you see it on your 'Scope. That usually ends the discussion!

Some people also have preference over the two different built-in, bargraph tuning methods the CP-1 and CP-100 use. With the CP-1 you start out with two L.E.D.'s, one on each side of the display. As you tune onto frequency, more L.E.D.'s appear from both sides moving towards the center. The way the tuning L.E.D.'s work in the CP-1 reminds one of the old "Cat Eye" tubes.

With the CP-100 you start with one L.E.D. in the center. As you tune in to a station the L.E.D.'s expand from center.
CP-1 with Oscilloscope atached. Nice Footballs!
